Poem Online

Welcome to Poem Online.

Poem Online is a community of poets helping each other to hone their craft. Have you ever wondered what others may think of your poetry, or if you need to learn to be a better writer?

If you have then this is the place for you.

Poem Online is now a large community of poets and is more than willing to read and comment on your work. We have been online since 1998 with always the same motto, "Bringing poets together."

We encourage peer to peer critique.  Challenging the poet not to only write poetry, but to offer suggestions to other poets to help them improve as well. We expect poets to have a thick skin and not to take it personal if they are unhappy with a critque from another member. The goal is to get honest feedback from other poets to help each member improve as a writer. At the same time we encourage poets to critique the poem and not criticize the poet personally. Poets here are from all over the world with many different backgrounds, We encourage poets to keep an open mind when reading poetry from members that do not share the same values or cultural background.

Title: The Months After

Revision One

She blew a hundred dollars
and drank away
four years of needles
and blood tests
and words that were never said
and words she wishes she could forget.

It all came together
toward the end,
when there was nothing left to say.

She’d give a million dollars
for two years, two days,
two minutes to forget it all,
to look someone
in the eye and say,
“Where were you going before you got dropped off here?”

Title: Uretiti {rev 1}

There is no shade
on beach or dune
curving for miles
in either direction
so here nudists,
mainly men,
middle-aged,
unnaturally bronze
with matronly hips
and small shoulders,
sit statuesque
on brilliant beach towels
and squint at glazed, buff,
solo homos
performing one-armed
push-ups in the tide.

Waves do not break
but bounce back
off the sand bar
and recede toward craggy,
hazy islands
hovering in the heat.

From the double back waves
she rises
pert, slinky, naked,
zigzagging
the soft sand
where jaw-dropped
teenage boys
pretend not to look.

Beside me
she towels off,
lies down
and I scoop
hot sand,
pour it
over her legs and arms
where my bliss
is her bliss
and her bliss
ovals her mouth
so I pour
and pour and pour
until slowly
she vanishes.

Now that I see the truth
    Cold sad and hurt
The face on the glass grows
Smashed have I all the mirrors

I saw you in a dream last night.
    You looked beautiful.
    Eyes and lips on me,
    soft and sensuous.
Talking to me in silent whispers.

All day I lurk in the shadows,
    waiting to catch your eye,
    as you hurry from
    kids to friends to pets.
    With no time...

    Grey sky behind dying trees
    Chimney pots engulfed in smoke
Recycling bins, TV sets and that little coffee shop down the road
Sparkling diamond rings displayed in a glass case
